Hallo München!

Arriving in Munich after a long day on the train from Amsterdam, we were pretty tired and hungry (as per usual) and so got a quick bite to eat before heading back to the hostel for the night in order to be up refreshed for our day in Munich.

Munich is a pretty expensive place, and so we didn’t do any guided tours or activities, and instead decided to explore the area ourselves.

We started in the town square, Marienplatz, which has the New Town Hall. The architecture on this building, and lots of buildings in Munich for that matter, is incredible.

We then walked to the English Gardens, which is so beautiful and peaceful. We walked pretty much all the way from one end to the other, getting to a lake. After sitting at the lake and eating our (minimal) picnic, we crossed over to the Maximilian Park.

This was a smaller park than the English Gardens, and so didn’t take as long to walk through.

Towards the end of the day, we headed to the Viktualienmarkt, which is a marketplace near the town square. It has lots of stalls selling traditional german foods and drinks and also souvenirs, clothing and plants. It is definitely worth a visit to get a feel for the german culture and it is just nice to sit and have something to eat or drink and people watch for a while! It is in a beautiful part of Munich. It is also located near St Peter’s church. You can walk up the tower of the church, which I have heard has a lot of steps to the top! We didn’t do this, although we are known for climbing hundreds of steps (literally) to the top of towers to get a good view. Maybe next time…

I would love to return to Munich in the future and explore more of the city itself. I feel that with a bigger budget I could have done a lot more, and with more time of course! Nonetheless, I loved Munich and thought it was a beautiful city and very much enjoyed my short time there!

For now, Prague, here we come!
