I wanted a pair of Dr Martens for years, but the price tag always prevented me from getting a pair. Not to mention that the majority of Docs are made from leather. However, I stumbled across a pair of vegan Dr Martens made from synthetic material, thus beginning my saving spree in order to purchase a pair. The exact name of the pair I got is ‘1460 VEGAN FELIX RUB OFF‘. They retail at £125, but if you sign up to the DM mailing list for your first purchase you receive 10% off. I ended up paying £112.50 from the official Dr Martens website. When you purchase the boots you also receive a pair of Dr Martens socks, which I honestly haven’t worn yet but they were still a nice little surprise to receive.
One of my major concerns when getting a pair of DMs was breaking them in. I had heard horror stories of people complaining that when breaking them in they got horrendous blisters and that the boots basically ruined their feet for the first few weeks. Honestly, I experienced none of this, I didn’t even have to break them in. I was prepared to wear multiple pair of socks and bandage up my feet, but from the first time I wore them, they didn’t rub at all and I just wore them as normal. The synthetic material is definitely softer than the leather in my opinion which is why I think they were easier to break in than the leather ones may have been.
The fact that the material is softer doesn’t mean that they are less robust. I have pretty much worn them every day since I got them in November and they haven’t even got so much as a scuff on them. The only marks of wear on them are the creases from where my feet have bent in them. I wore them throughout my time in both Iceland and Paris, which both included a lot of walking and they were incredibly comfortable to wear. The only downside that I would say is that they do not keep your feet warm. Had I only worn one pair of regular socks in Iceland, and Paris for that matter, my feet would have been bitterly cold, and since I have generally cold feet anyway it wouldn’t have been good. I recommend if you’re going somewhere cold wear two pairs of socks, or even better, thermal socks. The grip of the soles of these boots is also fantastic. I walked along quite a bit of snow and ice during my time in Iceland and I didn’t slip or fall, which for someone as clumsy as me is a welcomed relief!

Like I said, I have worn these boots pretty much every day since I got them. They go with basically any clothes, jeans, skirts, dresses. Whatever you want to wear they will most likely go with your outfit which is always a bonus!
I would 100% recommend getting the Dr Marten 1460 Vegan boots. The fact that no animals were harmed making them is the biggest bonus and incentive to buy them and they look no different to the leather ones so why not get these instead?! They are unisex, but I didn’t find I had to go down a size when getting them, I am a women’s size 5 and that is the size I chose for my DMs and they fit perfectly. All in all I love my Docs and will probably continue to wear them everyday until they fall to pieces, which by the looks of things won’t be for a long time yet!
