The day will come when you won’t be…
To all my fellow TWD fans out there, please give each other lots of hugs and be nice to each other after the harrowing hour that was the season 7 premier. Honestly, this has to be the best season premier of any TV show I have ever watched and sets season 7 of The Walking Dead up to be the best yet.
I cannot fault the acting in the episode one bit. Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohan especially were phenomenal and left my heart broken into a million tiny pieces when the episode was over. Maggie has lost everything in her life; her sister, mother, father and now her husband, all to the hands of humans and Lauren has portrayed the character in a way I feel no one else would be able to do. I hope this is just the beginning for Maggie and that she can start her journey to becoming the badass leader of the hilltop that we loved in the comics.
Andrew has been consistently amazing at portraying Rick Grimes and just stepped it up a notch in this episode. He deserves way more recognition than he gets. Seeing Rick break down like that in front of the rest of his group and become completely submissive to Negan was so hard to watch and shattered the illusion that he was unbreakable and in control over every situation. I think that’s partly what made the brutality of Negan’s kills all the more horrific, because we would expect Rick to take a stand and try to save his people, but in this moment even Rick was powerless.
Let’s move onto the part of the episode that we all waited for. Negan’s victims were revealed. Over the past months building up to the premier, a lot of speculation about who got Lucille’d was aired and many of us, including myself, predicted that it would be not one but two of our group that fell victim to Negan. Abraham was the first to go. He was a character that we could always rely on to bring a little joy to the show, with his fantastic one-liners…
…and let us not forget his final words in the midst of Negan’s wrath; “Suck my nuts”. Michael Cudlitz played the part of Abraham perfectly and will be a great loss to the show. He went out in true Abraham fashion and he went out like a champ.
Now we must address the other group member that we lost this episode. Glenn Rhee. All throughout the series he provided us and the rest of the group with a glimmer of hope that there was still good in the world. He danced with death a few times over the past six seasons, but what is to be noted is that pretty much all these instances he risked his own life in an attempt to help or save somebody else.

The way that they stayed so true to the comics was amazing *cough*eyeball*cough* and I think that Glenn couldn’t have went out in a better way. He stayed true to who he was until the very end and he and Abraham will both be sorely missed characters. The show lost two wonderful characters last night and it was almost impossible to watch as it happened.
I cannot finish without addressing how completely amazing Jeffrey Dean Morgan was as Negan. Everything from his look, his charisma, the way he sadistically smiled as he caved in Glenn and Abraham’s skulls was perfect and he was definitely the best choice to portray comic book’s most sinister villain.
I am so so excited to see what the rest of season 7 has in store, and let us say a final RIP to Glenn and Abraham, and a massive bravo and thank you to Steven and Michael for bringing the beloved characters to life on the small screen.
